Adult Community Employment (ACE)

The Adult Community Employment scheme (ACE) is a subsidised employment programme available to community groups, schools, churches, runanga and other non-profit organisations.

The ACE programme allows organisations to improve their productivity, enabling them to undertake additional work by employing an extra person. ACE employees benefit from the programme by acquiring genuine work experience and skill development.   ACE provides top-up funding to not-for-profit community groups for wages for people who are eligible for employment under Task Force Green through Work and Income.   Groups can apply at any time by contacting Work & Income. Final approval is made at the monthly ACE Committee meeting.   In 2005/06, approximately 130 ACE positions will be supported by CDC and Work & Income.

ACE is a highly successful initiative for both community groups & individuals - in the 2004/05 year 70% of ACE participants moved off benefit into full time work.
