International Education

What do Prime Minister John Key, singer Hailey Westernra, rugby hero Dan Carter, cricket legend Sir Richard Hadlee, television celebrity Phil Keoghan, film star Sam Neill, comedian Rhys Darby, scientist Sir Ernest Rutherford, author Dame Ngaio Marsh, wartime hero Charles Upham, and Tongan Prime Minister Feleti Vaka’uta Sevele have in common?  They all studied in Christchurch!

Thousands of students every year (about 20% of the New Zealand total) decide to come to Christchurch and Canterbury.  As a sector, international education contributes $380 million annually to our regional economy in tuition fees, homestay accommodation and discretionary spending along with adding to the diversity and multicultural make-up of our city.

In Christchurch & Canterbury you can study in the morning, be on the beach or the skifields in the afternoon, enjoy world class dining later on in an excellent restaurant or meet up with friends in one of the many hip cafes.

The effect of having international students in Christchurch and Canterbury is incredibly positive in establishing relationships with tomorrow’s leaders and forging research collaboration and partnerships.

Canterbury Development Corporation (CDC) has identified international education as a priority sector for development and supports Christchurch’s export education industry through its programme Education Christchurch and Canterbury.

Veterinary Nursing opportunities ‘too good to miss’ for German Student

Having the opportunity to study in Christchurch, New Zealand was a huge drawcard for German student Nathalie Klinger.

Nathalie was first attracted to New Zealand while travelling as an exchange student in 2003 and again as a tourist in 2005. Christchurch appealed because the climate was similar to her home town, Hamburg. However, it was not until her third visit to New Zealand in 2008, that she began to think about her future career prospects and the advantages of studying at CPIT.  Natalie was able to fast track her studies by doing her Veterinary Nursing Studies at CPIT.
