Employment Initiatives Fund (EIF)

The Employment Initiatives Fund supports not for profit organisations who have an employment, workforce development or community capacity building focus. The mission of the fund is:

  "To strategically support employment initiatives which strengthen communities in Canterbury."

Priority is given to organisations that promote employment opportunities through:

  • Sustainable development
  • Building workforce capabilities
  • Innovative ways of working
  • Non duplication
  • Quality services
  • Collaborative outlook

Funding is available up to a maximum of $50,000 per annum for up to 3 years.

The Workforce Capability Team monitors and evaluates the employment initiatives funded by the EIF. There are currently three organisations receiving EIF support:

  • He Oranga Pounamu: for the development of a Maori workforce plan and service for Maori jobseekers
  • Kaiapoi Community Care and Employment Trust: for the development of a horticultural community enterprise, which will enable the Trust to develop additional streams of revenue and support job seekers to move to full time employment in the horticulture sector
  • Kingdom Resources: for the Men @ Work and Taking the First Step (for women) pre-employment training courses.

 Update: The Employment Initiatives Fund has closed for 2007.
