“In order to transform the Canterbury economy and make the benefits of growth available to the whole community, the developing of employment opportunities and initiatives is a significant focus for the CDC."

 The CDC’s Employment Development Team aim to:

  • To maximise particiapation of Canterbury people in work, training or further education.
  • Enhance the quality of life enjoyed by the Canterbury community through initiatives that emphasise education, workforce training, skills provision and employment
  • Develop and deliver targeted employment initiatives that provide unemployed people with opportunities  to enter the workforce.
  • Develop and support employment initiatives that maximise the number of sustainable jobs in the region.
  • Work with other agencies and community groups to co-ordinate employment activities and initiatives – ensuring maximum benefit for the community
  • Support community groups in developing the necessary skills to effectively manage their activities
  • Prepare people for entering the workforce or changing careers through education and other targeted initiatives
