Innovation
Christchurch and Canterbury has a long history as a leading New Zealand centre for research and development and is known locally as an innovation hot spot for its emerging technology sector.
The city and region is well served with key universities, medical schools, research and teaching hospitals as well as Crown Research Institutes (CRIS), Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology (CPIT) and a range of centres of excellence many of which have a focus on technology transfer as well as research.
CDC works with all the institutions to present a connected view of the region’s innovation system. The research sector plays an integral role in providing excellent graduates, undertaking research for industry as well as building a pipeline of innovative research for future industries and addressing major New Zealand and global issues.
Given Canterbury’s unique environmental and natural assets, a significant portion of our research base builds work class knowledge in environmental based sciences.
