Why did you choose to move to Christchurch?

My wife and I created a list of the most important things in our life (after having lived and worked all over the world), such as safety, nice weather, good holiday spots and the ability shoot roots!
Australia, Denmark, Norway, Canada and New Zealand were our chosen possibilities, with New Zealand winning out as we liked the size of the country and because my brother-in-law lives here.

What does your company do?

Effectus is an information technology (IT) consultancy company that provides a range of services, including IT governance, to help clients get more value from their investments in IT.

What does your job involve?

My job is to provide consulting services to companies primarily in the area of information and communication technology (ICT) and project governance best practice.

What do you enjoy about your job?

I enjoy the variety, freedom (it’s not really an 8am to 5pm type of job), pressure, social element (networking), and opportunities.

How do you see your career progressing?

I hope to take on bigger projects with a larger team under my leadership.

Tell us about your lifestyle in Christchurch:

Fun at work:
We have had some BBQs and we regularly meet people from EPIC (Christchurch’s centre for innovation-based companies) for drinks on Fridays. I also regularly visit friends I have gotten to know through active networking.

Fun outside of work:
I have been on a few holidays, but due to having a young child (and another one on the way) I have not gotten into any other activities.

Family aspects:

I am married with a daughter who is two-and-a-half years old and another one expected in May this year. We love the kindergarten here.

Life in Christchurch:

While Christchurch is clearly in a huge rebuild period, we find it a lovely city. People are mostly friendly and it is not too far between places. It is also exciting to be part of the rebuild and see the city grow.
