Chris Harding
Why did you choose to move to Christchurch?

I came to New Zealand in February 2013 for a four-month trip. I bought a van and travelled around the North and South Islands.
While I was travelling, I contacted a few recruitment agencies and one put me in contact with my current company.

What does your company do?

SLI Systems delivers solutions that make it easier for the products and information on eCommerce websites to be found, through better site search and navigation, and by improving site visibility in web search engines.

What does your job involve?

I take the information provided by the client and an example of their website and use SLI search technology to provide a solution for the client that matches its existing website. I use XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery and others to match the look and feel of clients’ websites.

What do you enjoy about your job?

SLI Systems is a very good company to work for. There is something different to do every day and always something new to learn.

How do you see your career progressing?

Hopefully, I will become a team leader.

Tell us about your lifestyle in Christchurch:

Fun at work:
Work finishes at around 4:30pm on Fridays for social drinks and a get-together. Every day we have morning tea at 10:30am, which is also a bit of social time. A number of us do activities together on a regular basis.

Fun outside of work:
I take part in a social group that meets once a month to play board-games and I meet up with friends from work to do activities in the weekend. Mainly, I walk around Christchurch and explore.

Family aspects:

My family is in the UK and I communicate with them via a weekly update over Facebook and a Skype call on Sunday mornings when by brother and nieces are visiting my parents.

Life in Christchurch:

Not a lot happens in the centre of Christchurch at the moment, but that is changing. There is the river and parks to explore when the weather is nice and also the mall made of shipping containers. Most weekends there is something happening.
