ENI Engineering is a leading national manufacturing company based in Christchurch, with 20 years’ experience manufacturing a wide variety of products.

The company puts a lot of emphasis into design-for-manufacture products with its own in-house design team, utilising the latest 3D Inventor software from Autodesk.

Throughout all areas of the factory the company promotes excellence and innovation, to give customers exactly what they want at the best possible price.

Target market

ENI Engineering has a focus on the hard infrastructure sector, but supplies a wide variety of industries – including home heating, agriculture, lighting and electronics.

It has a number of customers nationally and a small percentage of indirect customers in parts of Australia.


ENI Engineering was founded in 1993 by current owners John and Jo Down from a workshop in their garage.

Since then the company has moved three times to bigger and better laid-out premises to accommodate growth and improve efficiency.

The company’s current building was purpose-designed and built to suit the flow of work through the factory.

ENI Engineering employs 50 factory staff working two shifts, supported by 12 management and office staff – all based in Islington, Christchurch.

Research and development

ENI Engineering is committed to research and development and is always pushing the limits in new ways to develop ideas for manufacturing processes on-site and through suppliers.

Roles within the company and company culture

Roles within the company include:

  • CNC operators for machinery such as press brakes, punch machine, and Fiber Laser
  • fabricators – Mig and Tig welding mild steel, aluminium and stainless steel
  • robotic welding
  • programming and drafting using the latest Trumpf and Inventor 3D software
  • powder coating
  • assembly
  • administration

ENI Engineering cares about others and takes pride in what it does. The company believes that its people are its greatest asset and takes pleasure in growing and advancing staff wherever possible.

At any one time ENI Engineering has 4 apprentices going through trade training, in addition to other training occurring in all areas of the factory and office.
