Bill established the core of the Mace Group of Companies in 1952 when he bought and renamed Toomeys Grinding and Gear Ltd – a company he had previously managed. Bill set a course for the Mace Group based on attention to detail and ingenuity, a course faithfully followed today.

Mace is located centrally in Christchurch. The workshop covers 6000m2 and Mace employs 35 staff.

Over the years Mace Engineering has expanded to encompass a range of complimentary disciplines. These include: general engineering and design, the design manufacture and repair of defence componentry; tyre equipment manufacture; motor reconditioning; cast aluminium rotational moulding tools, design and manufacture of new and refurbished hydro generation runners; manufacture and maintenance of cranes.
