Moffat in New Zealand has two primary business units:
- manufacturing – design, development, testing and manufacture of a comprehensive range of commercial kitchen equipment. Gas and electric products include convection ovens, holding cabinets, chargrills, fryers, griddles, pasta cookers and target tops
- sales – export and domestic. The sales catalogue includes Moffat’s manufactured lines, as well as agency lines such as meal delivery systems, ice makers, deck ovens, blast chillers and soft-serve equipment. The team has access to over 3000 main product types
Moffat equipment is found in restaurants, hotels, hospitals, education facilities, supermarkets, cafes and fast food restaurants around the world.
It is found anywhere customers need commercial food service, bakery, meal delivery and ice cream solutions.
The company exports 90 percent of its manufactured products to over 54 counties – the major markets being the USA, Australia and the UK. Distribution partners are located in Russia, the UAE, Asia and Canada.
Moffat’s New Zealand roots trace back to 1878 and the days of coal and wood ovens.
It has evolved and innovated from “cook-by-wire” domestic ovens; through the replacement of cast iron with sheet metal; catalytic cleaning and induction hobs; right up to today’s turbofan convection commercial cooking equipment.
Moffat’s New Zealand centre of excellence is based in Christchurch, where a new, purpose-built 13,500 sqm factory is scheduled for completion mid-2014.
Here, Moffat can manufacture over 5300 products. It currently processes over 2500 sheets of steel each week and ships over 400 20-foot containers each year. There is also a manufacturing facility in Brisbane.
The company employs over 170 people in New Zealand:
- Christchurch is home to the sales, design and development, manufacturing, and back office functions
- Auckland has a sales and spare parts division
Head office is based in Melbourne and primarily has a sales and service focus throughout Australia.
The company is owned by Ali Spa, an Italian company which, through its subsidiaries, is the world’s largest group in the industry.
